Stripes for Summer by Chanel

Chanel in its Spring Summer 2024 show brought back the stripes. Originally seen as a uniform of Breton fishermen, who used them in order to be seen in the event that they fell overboard, they were then introduced in the high fashion scene by Chanel in the 1920s and following that they became a synonymous of the youth culture in the 1950s worn by stars such as Audrey Hepburn, James Dean and Brigitte Bardot. In the Middle Ages they were seen as a sign of transgression, while in the French Revolution they were a political statement. In the popular culture on the other hand, they were interpreted by designers such as Sonia Rykiel, Tommy Hilfiger and Jean Paul Gaultier. For this summer, we see them in the more traditional black and white version in a sweater and logo top or rather in a more original style as a red and black maxi skirt. Pair it with your favorite accessories like a shoulder bag and voila you'll be set for a French-girl approved summer style. Perfect with ballerina flats for a touch of chic or a flowery headband for a boho look.
